Another vet visit for our senior dog.
Today I brought our senior dog back to the vet yet again. Although he is eating on his own and walking much better, I could tell his ear was still bothering him. I was thankful for a reduced rate for the recheck visit (saving us $15) but even with that, the bill was still $132. The poor boy needed yet another antibiotic for his ear. The vet also prescribed eye ointment for a swollen gland, which we are hoping isn’t melanoma. Both our dogs are scheduled to go for their annual visit next month, at which time the vet will recheck the issues our sickly dog has been having. My husbands standard reply…it’s only money.
I will admit to cringing just a bit when handing over our debit card to pay for this vet visit, but I know my husband is right. The issues this dog is currently having are treatable and not a matter of heroics. At 13+ years of age, that is where I would have to draw the line and say no more. To an extent I view these dogs as being in the hospice stage of their lives and we will continue to provide for them as such.
With not having $132 designated for sick dogs, our snowball will take the hit as to avoid taking it out of our emergency fund. I’ll look at the positive in that at least we have a snowball and our emergency fund remains intact. And with that, life goes on!
