And the New Year Begins

January 2, 2022 By: Lucy4 Comments

Yesterday afternoon I dropped Hubs off for work.  He will likely be out for at least a week.  Since I was relatively close to town, I went and did a little shopping.  I wanted to get a special card for my granddaughter’s best friend, who lost her father to ALS just a few days ago.  We met her a few times when we would visit family downstate.  The girls were inseparable.  Last February, she (along with my daughter and her family) spent a week at our house, so we got to know her even better.  Losing a parent at any age is tough, but I can’t even begin to imagine losing one at only 14 years of age.  I also wanted to enclose a little something special for her with the card.  Per my granddaughter’s suggestion, I got her a gift card for Starbucks.  [Read more…]

Sick days and Savings

January 2, 2020 By: Lucycomment

Today is my third missed day of work this week.  And all because of a cold that I most likely caught from going to work.  Ugh! In all fairness, yesterday would have probably been a day off because of the holiday.  But that still leaves me with no hours for the week.  For all these missed days, I’ve left it up to the kiddo’s mom whether or not she wanted me to come.  In trying to break the cycle of passing this cold back and forth, I think it is wise to avoid more contact until these germs die.  The kiddo’s mom traced it back to (in her words)  a “snot-nosed kid” where her daughter attends gymnastics.  I’d take it a step further and say it was the parent who should have kept the “snot-nosed kid” away from a non-essential activity.  At least with it now being several days into this cold, I feel that the worst of it is over. Budget Blessing

November 26, 2019 By: Lucy16 Comments

We have a new addition to add to our budget, and this one is a blessing!  I am pleased to announce the birth of our newest grandson!  He was born yesterday, making his appearance a week earlier than expected. From the pictures, he looks a lot like his sibling, with blond hair and blue eyes. [Read more…]

Figuring out 2020 Finances

November 24, 2019 By: Lucycomment

Thank you all for the words of wisdom from my last post.  They were spot on.  I am also revealed to hear that what I am experiencing is normal!  I really do believe that the “let down” feeling after getting out of debt isn’t given near enough attention.  Honestly, I never even saw it coming! Financial Figuring

June 24, 2019 By: Lucy10 Comments

I have written this blog post in my mind several times.  Unfortunately, up until now, that is where it has stayed.  Have you ever had an upcoming month or two where there are just too many variables?  That is where I’m at, which leaves me to do a lot of financial figuring. [Read more…]

Storms of Life

February 7, 2019 By: Lucy4 Comments

Storm clouds across the lake.

The winter storm is coming.  According to the forecast, the snow is supposed to start within a few hours.  Looking at the sky and feeling the heavy dampness in the air, I don’t think it is a bunch of hype.  Schools are closing early. The kids have had a lot of snow days, which is why I think they had them go in, even if for only half a day.  Work also told me to stay home.  Although we could use the money, I was relieved.  I had planned on stopping at the store, but I’ll be okay with what I have on hand.  Saved me some money right there!   [Read more…]

A financial setback won’t make us quit!

January 25, 2019 By: Lucy12 Comments

A few short years ago, a $6,300 furnace fiasco would have left me wanting to bury my head even deeper into the sand.  How do I know this?  Flashback to January 1, 2017, when we started our journey to dig out of $55,749.69 worth of debt.  That nasty number didn’t reach that level with proactive, positive behavior.  It came from years of denial, and most of all, not having a plan in place to do something about it.  While this week’s visit from Murphy was unwelcome, ours was the wrong door on which to knock.  A financial setback won’t make us quit! Pesky Numbers

December 16, 2018 By: Lucy4 Comments

I’m back at it today, playing with the pesky numbers.  Before I delve into all what’s on my mind, let me first give a mini update as to where we currently stand with our debt payoff.  As the usual, not a lot of change in the first half of December.  We paid another $600 towards Citi, bringing it down to $4,200.  Our Visa remains at $8440.44 as the statement closing date is later in the month. For those who dislike math, our total owed is now $12,640.44.   [Read more…]

Tough Decisions

December 13, 2018 By: Lucy13 Comments

The past week has been busy, both on a work level and personal level.  I covered a lot more hours with the baby while his grandmother was out of town.  I’m happy with the extra money I earned but will say I didn’t enjoy the early mornings, long days or my RLS symptoms which were exacerbated by being more tired.  Those earnings certainly do come with a price!  Anyhow, the purpose of today’s post isn’t to complain about my physical ailments.  Tough decisions are what has been weighing heavily on my mind.   [Read more…]

Money Talks: 11-9-2018

November 9, 2018 By: Lucy12 Comments

Good news.  Hubs is getting a raise!  From what he heard, it is 2%.  Unfortunately, he doesn’t yet know all the details as he was unavailable for the conference call to learn more about it.  I’m sure he will get more info in the coming weeks.  At least we know the raise is coming.   [Read more…]

I left the house!

There is actually a world out there! After three days at home, I finally left the house.  Almost forgot how to drive.  Just kidding.  As I’ve mentioned before, I do try and stay home as much as possible.  Just to go out for the sake of going out feels wasteful to me.  To some people, […]
