Our big idea

July 17, 2020 By: Lucy5 Comments

Yesterday I wrote about selling the car, and that we have an idea of what we want to do with the proceeds.  In trying to be a bit more transparent (because I know you all want to know how much we got!), it wasn’t a huge amount.  The car was in excellent shape but did have a smidge over 100,000 miles.  We accepted an offer of $4,500.  Nothing earth-shattering, but still a nice amount to add to our savings.  We are also getting $467 back from our auto insurance, as I had just paid our six-month premium. Since I already accounted for that money, I’ll throw that into savings as well.

Now for the big idea.  It is about our future house renovation. [Read more…]

2020 Goals Revisited

July 15, 2020 By: Lucy8 Comments

After an almost four-month hiatus from blogging, I think it is a good idea to review my 2020 goals.   Not keeping up with A Dime at a Time hasn’t been good.  I know I lost a lot of my focus, and it put these goals a bit of “out of sight, out of mind.”   So, about those goals.  Here is what I started with, and where we are now: [Read more…]

2020 Goals Expanded Plus Motivational Mondays

December 22, 2019 By: Lucy7 Comments

As 2020 approaches, I think I need to add some measurable numbers and dates to my previous goals, and also add a few other things to help keep me motivated.  Many of you hit the nail on the head when you said I am motivated by having goals.  Yes, I am!  So, here are my 2020 Goals Expanded: [Read more…]

Where finances got sloppy in 2019

December 17, 2019 By: Lucy6 Comments

Over the weekend, I spent a lot of time scrutinizing our 2019 finances.  While we did well paying off our debt, I know there were areas where I was sloppy and could should have done better.  I think I became so overly focused on the debt that I lost track of the day-to-day stuff.  No doubt, not paying closer attention ended up costing us more over the course of the year. 2020 Goals

“If you aim at nothing you will hit it every time.” Zig Ziglar

I’ve always loved that quote by Zig Ziglar because there is so much truth behind it.  Goals are so important for making things happen.  I know that our quest to get debt free (minus the mortgage) wouldn’t have happened had we not had goals and a plan to see them through.  While things didn’t always happen precisely how or when we planned, never once did we lose focus of the bullseye. 2019 Goals. Keeping it Simple.

January 6, 2019 By: Lucy10 Comments

Yikes.  We are almost a full week into 2019, and I have yet to post my goals. Initially, I had a planned to write a (cough) an elaborate itemized timeline of everything I hope to accomplish.  Given the way the year has started, I quickly ditched that idea.  I am now going to keep it simple in 2019. Pesky Numbers

December 16, 2018 By: Lucy4 Comments

I’m back at it today, playing with the pesky numbers.  Before I delve into all what’s on my mind, let me first give a mini update as to where we currently stand with our debt payoff.  As the usual, not a lot of change in the first half of December.  We paid another $600 towards Citi, bringing it down to $4,200.  Our Visa remains at $8440.44 as the statement closing date is later in the month. For those who dislike math, our total owed is now $12,640.44.   [Read more…]

Challenging myself AND you!

March 29, 2018 By: Lucy16 Comments

$1,500.  What does that amount mean to me?  It is the approximate amount that will remain on our smallest debt after making our April $700ish snowball.   [Read more…]

2018 Monthly Minimums

December 16, 2017 By: Lucy9 Comments

18 for 18!

With 2018 just around the corner, I’ve been giving a lot of thought to what I’d like to see accomplished in the coming year.  2018 will be our second year on our journey to debt freedom, and I’m feeling optimistic!  Although we didn’t pay off near as much as I’d hoped in 2017, we are still in a far better position than we were 12 months ago, and I genuinely believe from this point that it will only get better. Nine to Five

December 7, 2017 By: Lucy8 Comments

The adjustment of working more hours.

Okay, so my hours are more like 11-5 (yesterday) or as for today, 11-2.  I also haven’t seen that old movie Nine to Five in what now seems like forever, but hey, I like the song and this business of going to work every day makes me feel like I’m working 9-5.  Lol.

My additional hours are still not set, and I doubt they ever really will be.  Fortunately, it isn’t an on-call type of position, so I do still have some flexibility.  The job calls for anywhere from 5-20 hours per week, which makes it a perfect addition to the very part-time hours I was already working.  Keep in mind that I do still work my side business and work full-time for a couple of months during the Summer at my seasonal job.  I still need to figure out the logistics of next Summer but will cross that bridge when I come to it.  For now, I am happy with more money for snowballing our debt! The crazy ups and downs of paying off debt

How an impulsive move is again changing our debt snowball. Crazy how just a few clicks of a mouse can change an entire plan, but yesterday that is exactly what happened!  On a bit of a whim, I decided to apply for a new credit card that was offering balance transfers with zero percent interest […]
