Life after Debt

November 22, 2019 By: Lucy21 Comments

It has now been a month since we paid off our last debt.  I’m not quite sure why, but right now I feel like I’m in a strange spot with a mixed bag of emotions.  While I’m still thrilled to be debt-free (minus the mortgage), I feel like I’ve lost my mojo.  I have spent the last week or so trying to figure out why.  My hunch is it isn’t just one attributing thing. More Hours

September 28, 2019 By: Lucy6 Comments

Today I’ll be working some more hours.  I don’t know exactly how many, but more are always welcome.  I woke up to a text from the mom of the kiddo I watch, asking if I could stay longer today.  She received a promotion at work a couple of weeks ago, and ever since then, I’ve been getting extra time. How should we celebrate freedom from debt?

September 27, 2019 By: Lucy16 Comments

I’ve been giving some thought about how we should celebrate our freedom from debt.  While we aren’t quite there yet, the end is within sight. [Read more…]

Sending another snowball to the Visa

September 25, 2019 By: Lucy6 Comments

The statement for our Visa came via email during the night.  The minimum payment is $78.  The interest charged was $26.78.  I’ve gone ahead and scheduled a payment for tomorrow for $126.74.  That will more than take care of the minimum and also cover the interest.  Balance goes down to $3,500! Property Tax Refund!

September 19, 2019 By: Lucy10 Comments

Woohoo.  In today’s mail, we received a refund for overpayment of our property taxes in 2018.  I can’t quite figure out how they came to the amount,  but the check was for $283.68.  I’m sure that we saved even more than that for this year by getting the taxes lowered.  Going to the tribunal will help with future years too as there is a cap as to how much they can raise the taxes.  As for the check, it is probably an easy guess as to what we are going to do with the money! The hush-hush of debt in your later years: Republishing an older post!

September 13, 2019 By: Lucy26 Comments

hush-hush

I don’t know that I’ve ever republished an older post, but even 2+ years later, I still feel that sadly, this topic still rings true.  While I wish that it wouldn’t be so, I am thrilled that there are many of us who at least are doing something about our debt! Keep up the fight, my friends.  It will be so worth it! [Read more…]

Check and Debt Update

July 23, 2019 By: Lucy8 Comments

Yesterday we received the endorsed check back from our mortgage company for our collapsed deck.  Also in the mail was a separate package wanting a whole list of items.  It was things like the contractor’s license, signed contracts, a release of lien, intent to complete work, etc.  I was a bit miffed as none of this was discussed during my previous calls with the bank.  So, time to call them again.   [Read more…]

The Good and the Bad

June 27, 2019 By: Lucy14 Comments

What news do you want me to start with…the good or the bad? Whenever someone asks me that question, I always prefer to get the bad over with first and then end on a positive note.  To let you make your own choice, I’ll post a happy face before the good news and a sad face before the bad. Time for some good news!

April 26, 2019 By: Lucy18 Comments

Lately, I feel like most of my posts are all gloom and doom.  But, right now, I do have some good news! As of this coming Monday, Citi will be paid off in full!  I wasn’t sure whether or not we’d be able to pull it off.  But thanks to Hub’s having a bigger check than anticipated, we will.  For good measure, I’m even sending an extra $25 towards paying off our furnace.  That way I can now officially say that is the new target of our snowball.  The year has been a tough one, so we really needed this win. A Positive Send-Off

March 18, 2019 By: Lucy14 Comments

Hubs is back to work today.  With having a flight leave right at dinner time, I planned ahead.   I packed him a sandwich, chips, mandarin oranges, and a coke to eat/drink while we were waiting for the security area to open.  We live over an hour away from the airport, and I knew he would likely be wanting something to eat before his plane departed.  Far cheaper and tastier than what the small store in our airport sells.  But, his positive send-off actually started when we stopped for our mail before heading out to the airport.   [Read more…]

Another Why

Since I stayed home from work today due to coming down with a cold, I figured I’d write about one of our big “whys” for being so desperate to get out of debt.  On a quick side note, I do realize that missing time from work doesn’t do a lot to help us reach this […]
