Nine to Five

December 7, 2017 By: Lucy8 Comments

The adjustment of working more hours.

Okay, so my hours are more like 11-5 (yesterday) or as for today, 11-2.  I also haven’t seen that old movie Nine to Five in what now seems like forever, but hey, I like the song and this business of going to work every day makes me feel like I’m working 9-5.  Lol.

My additional hours are still not set, and I doubt they ever really will be.  Fortunately, it isn’t an on-call type of position, so I do still have some flexibility.  The job calls for anywhere from 5-20 hours per week, which makes it a perfect addition to the very part-time hours I was already working.  Keep in mind that I do still work my side business and work full-time for a couple of months during the Summer at my seasonal job.  I still need to figure out the logistics of next Summer but will cross that bridge when I come to it.  For now, I am happy with more money for snowballing our debt! It’s a new day!

November 29, 2017 By: Lucy15 Comments

What a difference 24 hours can make!

After a self-induced restless night, I made it through yesterday.  It was no surprise that I felt tired most of the day, but only getting a few hours of sleep does that to a person.  Despite my lack of sleep, the day turned out okay.  While not my usual type of post, I’d say that blogging away my stress was indeed therapeutic.  I feel it helped me identify what was stressing me out, at which point I could then do something about it.  And I did! Boring!

November 19, 2017 By: Lucy14 Comments

My most boring post ever!

Can you believe it?  Boring is the word my Hubs described yesterday’s post!  Yes, Hubs does read my blog.  He even told me it is the highlight of his day.  Well, until yesterday that was!  Pretty sad right there!  But to hear him say it was boring?!  Seriously?  Call me crazy, but I love getting down to the nitty-gritty of the numbers. Sorry to disappoint you, Hubs, but the numbers are a big part of what I like to write about!  [Read more…]

Early to bed and early to rise…

November 15, 2017 By: Lucy14 Comments

Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.

We’ve all heard that old saying attributed to Benjamin Franklin.  If that were true, I ought to have a whole lot more Benjamins in my bank account!  As for the healthy and wise part, well, I do try to work on the health part, and since they say that wisdom comes with age, I’m getting there too.  Lol   [Read more…]

Thankful!

November 3, 2017 By: Lucy14 Comments

Hubs has been cleared to return to work!

It wasn’t easy, but Hubs has received all the needed paperwork to return to work on Monday.  His immediate supervisor had told him all that was needed was a return slip from his doctor.  Human resources, however, had a different idea.  Today Hubs scrambled to have the doctor’s office fill out umpteen amounts of paperwork, fax it to his employer, and get the final okay from HR saying he was good to go.  Fridays are seldom good days for handling such matters, so I’m thankful he managed to get it done.   [Read more…]

Before coming to our standstill

October 18, 2017 By: Lucy8 Comments

What we did accomplish prior to Hub’s health issue.

With Hubby being home the last week, I was a bit lax about updating the blog.  Since we don’t usually have much time together, any time we do get usually becomes my first priority.  Prior to coming to a sudden standstill over Hub’s newly diagnosed hernia, I had intended on writing a complete update.  As with many things in life, plans often change.  Anyhow, Hubby now has an appointment with a surgeon tomorrow.  It was a little tough getting that one as they were booked until November.  Thankfully there was a cancellation.  While not what I would consider a true emergency in the sense of urgency (or at least not yet!), I also would not have felt comfortable with him returning to work without further evaluation.  The last thing we need is for him to be several states away and have things turn ugly. Another reason to get debt free

September 22, 2017 By: Lucy8 Comments

Not that I really needed another reason!

How in the world does a $1,500 balance transfer (with a zero percent interest rate) go from $1,545 (including the 3% transfer fee) to $1,547.53?  Well, according to the first representative I spoke with, the interest charged is for the $45 transfer fee.  And so my day began.   [Read more…]

Time for a quick update

September 10, 2017 By: Lucycomment

Just a quick update on life here at A Dime at a Time.

Not a lot going on right now, so this is just a quick update of the past few days.

I sold two more items on eBay, netting roughly $30 after fees, etc.  I found a couple more items to list, so I’ll work on that either later tonight or this coming week.  Every little bit helps! [Read more…]

The reality check you’ll want to read

September 7, 2017 By: Lucy15 Comments

It may also be a reality check you should give yourself.

A heads up for those of you who might be sick of reading me write about interest rates and be tempted to click over to the next blog on your reading list.  Please wait.  Yes, this is yet another post about the subject, but stay with me on this. Today I want to share with you how much doing stupid with zeros is costing us.  Much like sharing how much debt we are battling, this is equally difficult to admit.  It is also something that I didn’t realize was quite as bad as it is. If I ever needed another reason to feel the urgency to dump our debt, this sure gave me a doozy! [Read more…]

Financial wins

September 6, 2017 By: Lucy8 Comments

Almost like a burst of energy as we travel along this long road to financial freedom!

Good things have happened here at A Dime at a Time this week.  No matter how big or small, I like to take a moment and be thankful for the financial wins that come our way. [Read more…]

April Progress Update

Progress is still progress! I’m a day late getting this update written.  Between working my seasonal job, prepping for the election,  rearranging my furniture (more on that later) and then putting some time into my business, I lost track of the day.  At least most of these activities were money earning activities!  The prepping for […]
