August Progress Report

September 1, 2017 By: Lucy16 Comments

Where the numbers stand.

We did better than I anticipated for August.  We are still waiting on those balance transfers to take place.  We opened a new account solely for this purpose, and that is what takes longer.  The card is already in our possession, not that I felt the need for a physical card as we will never use it for purchases.  It was strictly the 21 months at zero percent that we were after. July in Review and Moving Forward

July 31, 2017 By: Lucy14 Comments

How did we do in July and what do we hope to do in August?

From a previous post….

What do I hope to see for July?  I’d like to see a couple of things.  Our smallest debt (a Visa) is now at $4,459.91.  I’d like to see that get below $4,000.  There is just something psychological about seeing that first 4 change to a 3!  Secondly, I would like to see us hit the 10K mark of debt paid off.   [Read more…]

June Progress Report and the best $20 I ever spent!

June 29, 2017 By: Lucy19 Comments

What a difference six months can make!

It is hard to believe that it was just half a year ago that we decided we’d had enough of living a life of debt.  This decision to finally do something about our finances all stemmed from a $20 used set of Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace CDs purchased off of eBay as a Christmas gift for my hubby.  We were broke, and I said that listening to the CDs would be his Christmas gift to me. Hubby not only listened to the CDs but he also quickly became a Dave Ramsey junkie!  I dare say that was the best $20 I have ever spent!  We set our start date as Jan 1st, 2017 and although still in debt, have made what we feel is significant progress! May 2017 Progress Report

June 2, 2017 By: Lucy18 Comments

How’d we do?

We did great, that’s how we did!  Another $1,328.76 of debt is now gone forever!  Since starting our journey on January 1st (just five short months ago!), we have now paid off a total of $6,980.21.  Had I realized how close we were to reaching the $7K mark, I would have squeezed out another $20 to add to our number.  Needless to say, I am thrilled to see this progress! April Progress Update

May 2, 2017 By: Lucycomment

Progress is still progress!

I’m a day late getting this update written.  Between working my seasonal job, prepping for the election,  rearranging my furniture (more on that later) and then putting some time into my business, I lost track of the day.  At least most of these activities were money earning activities!  The prepping for the election took all of 15 minutes, for which I’ll receive an extra 2 hours of pay.  I’ve also been asked to help break it down after the election is over, for which I’ll receive another 2 hours.  Working the polls won’t make you rich, but I’ll take the snowflake!  Thankfully the precinct I work for pays us decently for the minimal work involved.  Strangely they don’t all pay the same hourly wage, but at least in my state, you can work for any of them.  Anyhow, onto our progress! March 2017 Debt Elimination Update

March 29, 2017 By: Lucy22 Comments

How much debt did we pay off?

It is almost the end of the month and time to add up our numbers.  With only two days remaining this month, I highly doubt anything more will be sent to our debt.  Should we do so (hey, you never know!) I’ll tack it on our April update.  My goal for March was to reduce our Baby Step 2 debt by $1,000.  We came ever so close!  Try as I might, I simply could not squeeze anything else in our budget to help us reach that number.  So, how much debt did we pay off in March? The (almost) end of the month review for February

February 25, 2017 By: Lucy2 Comments

How much did we pay off?

February turned out to be an awesome month for us.  For the debts on our snowball list, we paid off $3,444.93!  Keep in mind that we received a large escrow refund in January so $2525 went towards eliminating a home improvement loan.  Although I added it to our total, I like to point out that $919.93 was paid from our regular incomes, selling things and simply cutting back.  Admittedly I’ve often felt a tad discouraged when I’d read of others eliminating enormous amounts of debt each month while we struggled to pay off a few hundred.  While we do have a decent income, we also have an indecent amount of debt to pay off.  I want to give hope that no matter where you are in your journey, you can do this too!

The (almost) end of the month review

January 29, 2017 By: Lucy2 Comments

Making some progress.

I know.  It isn’t quite the end of the month, but I couldn’t wait!  To see our debt go down is beyond exciting.  Prior to drawing this final line in the sand, there were a lot of months that sadly, our debt load increased.  So how did we do?  Drum roll…
For our non-mortgage debt, we paid off $718.26.  For our mortgage debt, we paid off $582.05 for a grand total of $1,300.31.  Making progress!  Before you wonder what happened to the $2,525 that we paid off with the refund from our escrow, I don’t want to count it until I see it credited to our account.  No worries, it will happen and reflect in February.
While we still have a long ways to go, this does give me hope.  This time around we will get debt free.  Anything we throw at our debt it is one step closer to financial peace.
Are you tracking your progress?  If so, how did you do for January?

Snow Central

As forecasted, we are getting hammered with snow.  Combined with what we got yesterday and what will likely fall today, we are looking close to two feet of new snow from this storm.  From what I saw on the local news, this is the snowiest season this area has seen since 1997.
