A Blast From My Past and Keeping Busy

June 8, 2018 By: Lucy15 Comments

Wow, has this past week been busy.  Adding to it was receiving a blast from my past.  A year or so ago, thanks to Facebook, I had reconnected with some friends I had 30+ years ago.  This past Sunday, they called to say they were camping about three hours from me and wanted to see me.  Needless to say, I promptly changed my plans and made myself available.   [Read more…]

Update Time 6-1-2018

June 1, 2018 By: Lucy15 Comments

I meant to get this posted yesterday, but after a long day taking care of the preemie and then going to my small group Bible study, there just wasn’t any time.  May wasn’t as strong of a month for us, but at least we still met our goal of paying off at least $1,500 for the month.  We were also able to get The Beast (aka Discover) below 10K.   [Read more…]

Planning for a Long Overdue Trip

May 30, 2018 By: Lucy8 Comments

A beautiful thing about blogging is that (provided I wrote about it) I can look back at when I did what.  As a result, I am now planning on taking a long overdue trip to see family.  Time passes by so quickly it is hard to believe it has now been over a year since I last saw my elderly father.  With him now being 90, I feel these visits are more important than ever.  Additionally, I had a new grandchild born earlier this year whom I have also yet to see. More hours than time

May 25, 2018 By: Lucy12 Comments

Not enough hours in the day is how I’ve been feeling lately.  I’ve been working a lot more hours than usual.  No doubt this is a good thing while digging out of debt!   [Read more…]

Thank you!

May 11, 2018 By: Lucy21 Comments

A big THANK YOU for the all encouraging words and suggestions as I battled some weariness.  I am again in good spirits and remain in attack mode against our debt.  This journey is definitely not one for the weak.  Giving up, however, is not an option.  I will see this through to the end!   [Read more…]

Family Dynamics~A Big Ugh!

May 3, 2018 By: Lucy17 Comments

The one thing I’ve never gotten too personal about here on A Dime at a Time is the topic of family dynamics.  Let me tell you, compared with dealing with family issues, paying off debt sure feels like a walk in the park!  In spite of how some people like to portray themselves (yes, we all know a few who seemingly have a “Leave it to Beaver” life), the majority of us do have our battles, and that includes me. Sorry for the lack of posts

April 30, 2018 By: Lucy6 Comments

Hi everyone.  So sorry for the lack of posts.  Life has been a bit crazy the past week.  Between putting in as many hours as possible at work, Hubs being away for an extended time and now some issues with my elderly father, I’ve been a bit stressed.  I should be back tomorrow with an update on how much debt we paid off in April.  I will say it was a very good month!

Back to Work

April 19, 2018 By: Lucy18 Comments

It’s back to work for me tomorrow.  The 80+-year-old secretary asked me to cover for her.  Working for her on Fridays has become a bit of a norm, and I’m thankful for the hours.  I think she enjoys having a three day weekend and she has more than enough vacation time on the books to take time off every week.  Sadly, she says she can’t afford to retire.  Based on how often her grown son comes into the office to “borrow” money from her, this could be partly true.  If there was ever a case for needing to set boundaries, this is it!  I wonder what her grown son will do when his mother is no longer around to sponge off. Digging out is hard work!

April 18, 2018 By: Lucy12 Comments

I survived the snowstorm but am still digging my way out.  Adding to the 20+ inches that fell was a lot of blowing and drifting.  Our snowblower had a mishap in that I hit a downed branch causing it to lock up.  Unfortunately, I hadn’t gotten very far with the clearing when this happened.   I wasn’t able to dislodge the branch, so Hubs will try when he gets home.  If he can’t, thankfully the warranty does cover this sort of thing.  Getting someone to come out and plow was a no go.  Ugh!  So, this means I’m spending a couple of days digging my way out the old-fashioned way.   [Read more…]

Waving my White Flag

April 14, 2018 By: Lucy6 Comments

…WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 2 AM SUNDAY TO
8 AM EDT MONDAY…

* WHAT…Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 10 to 19
inches, with locally higher amounts expected, especially in YOUR AREA…Grr

* WHEN…From 2 AM Sunday to 8 AM EDT Monday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Travel will be very difficult to
impossible. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph will cause areas of
blowing and drifting snow, sharply reducing visibilities at
times.

Nooooooo!!!!!!!  I give in.  Can’t you see me waving my white flag?  Probably not since I’m still all but buried under the last round we had only two short days ago!  Sigh.  As I type, the wind is steadily picking up.  Yep, it’s coming.   [Read more…]

Storms of Life

The winter storm is coming.  According to the forecast, the snow is supposed to start within a few hours.  Looking at the sky and feeling the heavy dampness in the air, I don’t think it is a bunch of hype.  Schools are closing early. The kids have had a lot of snow days, which is why […]
