Christmas Come and Gone

December 27, 2019 By: Lucy8 Comments

Happy belated Christmas!  We had a very low-key Christmas.  Our neighbors came over for an hour or so, and for the rest, we spent time looking over house ideas.  We didn’t exchange any gifts.  When Hubs was home last, I had given him a couple of books about the history of our area, so that was his gift.  I told Hubs that the TV we got for our bedroom a month or so ago was plenty for me.

On Christmas Eve, I received an email from the nursing home where my dad is living.  His unit was on quarantine for a highly contagious stomach virus, so visitors were strongly discouraged.  Taking family members outside the unit was also discouraged.  Given that email, I was thankful we had not planned a trip to see my dad for Christmas.

For the past several days, I’ve been dealing with a painful toothache.  Last weekend it got so bad that it was waking me up at night.  I was able to get in with my dentist on Monday, and he felt I had an abscess.  Since it is a wisdom tooth, and it would be very costly to treat, he thought it best to have it removed.  After reviewing the x-ray, he referred me to an oral surgeon.  For now, I’m on an antibiotic and pain pills, which thankfully have started to help.  I’m not sure what this will end up costing, but hopefully,  between our dental and medical insurance, we won’t have too much out of pocket.  Always something.

I’ve been battling with our insurance company over a claim for a mammogram I had back in October.  They paid all but $40 of the claim, but since it is a covered benefit, they should have paid the entire bill.  Every rep I’ve spoken with (on three separate calls) agrees that they should be paying the claim, but for whatever reason, it continues to be denied.  Thankfully the biller has been decent by advancing the billing statement while I work on getting this resolved.  While it is only $40, it is still $40, and $40 that I do not owe.

M-Turks has been a real dud the past few weeks.  I’ve read that the holidays can be a low-earning time of the year.  Now that I have a new goal of earning $2020 for 2020, I’m eager for it to pick up again!  At least by making a note of this slow time, I can plan accordingly for next year.

I hope everyone had a good Christmas!

We had a very nice, quiet Christmas. My daughter wasn’t here which was sad, but she’ll be coming to visit in January so I’m excited about that. I guess you know you are practical when your Christmas gifts are a Bissell CrossWave, Mr. Clean magic erasers, and slippers :). My son said “you know you are a grown up when you LIKE getting socks and underwear for Christmas” – which he did 🙂

Come Tuesday when the re-fi money hits our account we will be officially DEBT FREE except the mortgage- REALLY looking forward to those 0 balances!!! There will NEVER, EVER be a balance on them again!

    Let the remodeling begin….kill me….

Too bad your daughter couldn’t be with you for Christmas. I think your gifts are great! I’m a very practical person too, and would have been just as excited!

One more day and you will be debt free! I’m thrilled for you! As for your mortgage, one suggustion I have is to cross off lines of your amortization schedule as you pay it down. I’ve been doing this with ours and it gives me a lot of motivation.

      Have fun with your remodeling!

I think it will be too. I’ve never even come close to earning that much, but I think having a fun goal will help motivate me. Fortunately the unit my dad is on had their Christmas party a week before the virus hit, so that was good.

Sounds like you had a nice quiet Christmas. That’s too bad about your dad’s place all being sick. Hopefully he doesn’t get it.

It was a nice Christmas. With our work schedules, we can’t risk getting caught in a winter storm, so staying home it is. So far my dad has dodged the bug that is going around. Hoping he stays healthy!

I cashed in all my passive income amounts and was surprised it was 135.00 woohoo! The largest amount being Survey Savvy.Starting new on 1/1 and this small incentive makes me want to do so much more. I also cashed in 325.00 in Swagbucks throughout the year
