Continuing on, the best that we can.

March 30, 2020 By: Lucy10 Comments

Since my dad’s passing, I’ve often found myself thinking, “it was x amount of days since this or that happened.”  Life does continue, and we have to do so the best that we can.

My “job” of overseeing my father’s healthcare and final arrangements is now over, so that is one less thing on my plate.  My brother will finish taking care of the financial end of things.  Since the main focus of this blog is financial, yes, there is an inheritance.

The money will be coming to us from a few sources. The main one I knew about, plus there are at least two others.  Last week was simply not the time to discuss all the nitty-gritty details of our father’s will and trust, but we did touch on a few things.   As with any estate, it will take time to settle.

Hubs is now on his way back to the East Coast for work.  With the craziness of the Coronavirus, he chose to rent a car rather than fly home.  His job generously gave him three days of bereavement pay, plus he gets his travel days paid as well.  It is worrisome having him head to this hot spot. I did my best to load him up with a lot of provisions that he couldn’t have otherwise taken had he flown.

As for me, well, I’m thankfully stuck at home.  Since I had been in an area where there are numerous Coronavirus cases (and deaths), the kiddos family understandably wants me to self-isolate for 14 days.  Honestly, had they not made that request, I would have suggested doing so.  This virus is nothing to be messed with, and we all need to do our part to stop the spread and flatten the curve.

To end on a positive note, we got our taxes back from our CPA and we don’t’ owe!  🙂

Yay for not owing taxes!!!! We have been trying to keep busy but I have to be honest, I am getting bored!!! I went out yesterday and planted some seeds I had and cleaned the patio up. We cleaned out the hutch in the kitchen and LORDY did we shove a lot of “gadgets” in there that we have never used. Once Goodwill opens again we will be making a VERY large donation!!!

I am always relieved not to owe! Planting seeds? Oh how I wish-we still have several feet of snow on the ground. My hunch is that the Goodwill will do very well after life gets back to normal. Good opportunity to clean out spaces that rarely see the light of day!

My work days feel longer, despite no commute. I’m mentally drained so trying to add more exercise at least, but would like to accomplish something in my house.

I think the lack of interaction with others likely doesn’t help the situation. Added exercise would do us all some good during these challenging times. Hang in there.

Previously, I have self-isolated due to not wanting to spend money. Now, I self-isolate per our state order and, more importantly, to flatten the curve. I’ve been trying to keep myself occupied.

I’ve always been a bit of a home-body, so these stay-at-home orders aren’t terrible fo me. I do admit, though, that I miss the interaction with the kiddo and his family. Challenging as it is, we all need to do our part in flattening this curve. Scary times. Hang in there, Rhitter.

I sure was glad to have that new car. Had I needed to rent a vehicle, it would have meant waiting until the next day as there was nothing open when I got word my dad’s condition had changed. I’m not a fan of taking on debt, but dependable transportation is a must!

2019 Goals. Keeping it Simple.

Yikes.  We are almost a full week into 2019, and I have yet to post my goals. Initially, I had a planned to write a (cough) an elaborate itemized timeline of everything I hope to accomplish.  Given the way the year has started, I quickly ditched that idea.  I am now going to keep it […]
