Business as usual

November 20, 2017 By: Lucy10 Comments

Plenty more boring posts to come!

The consensus of the comments on the post from yesterday speaks volumes.  It will be business as usual here at A Dime at a Time. I think Hubs was a tad surprised at how many of us do enjoy reading and talking about numbers!  His loss, our gain.  Now maybe he will leave us me alone.  I guess it is a good thing he doesn’t comment, or at least not on the blog that is!  Lol. Boring!

November 19, 2017 By: Lucy14 Comments

My most boring post ever!

Can you believe it?  Boring is the word my Hubs described yesterday’s post!  Yes, Hubs does read my blog.  He even told me it is the highlight of his day.  Well, until yesterday that was!  Pretty sad right there!  But to hear him say it was boring?!  Seriously?  Call me crazy, but I love getting down to the nitty-gritty of the numbers. Sorry to disappoint you, Hubs, but the numbers are a big part of what I like to write about!  [Read more…]

The anticipated hospital bill

November 18, 2017 By: Lucy10 Comments

We have received our Explanation of Health Care Benefits.

Not a pleasant piece of mail to open, but at least we now have a better idea of where we stand.  Our remaining balance for Hub’s surgery is $4,417.  We owe $114.10 for the initial visit with the surgeon, $1,115.23 for the surgeon’s services, and $3,187.67 to the hospital.  Based on my experience from a surgery I had for a broken ankle, we will need to come up with the surgeon’s share once they send the bill.  The hospital, however, initially gave us an interest-free payment plan of $215/month for 18 months, which would be more than we owe. Whether they will decrease the monthly amount or the duration is now a matter of wait and see.  While it would be nice to have a reduced monthly payment, I am also eager to get this new bill paid off ASAP. Home for Thanksgiving

November 16, 2017 By: Lucy10 Comments

Thankful!

Hubs will be coming home for Thanksgiving!  We just received the word yesterday!  I don’t know all the details yet, other than I’ll need to pick him up at the airport Wednesday evening.  Hopefully, he will be home until Monday morning.  Given that he had been home for an entire month, we weren’t sure if his company would approve him coming back so soon afterward.  We also live in such a remote location that flights are super expensive, even more so during the holidays.  So now I need to start planning! Early to bed and early to rise…

November 15, 2017 By: Lucy14 Comments

Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.

We’ve all heard that old saying attributed to Benjamin Franklin.  If that were true, I ought to have a whole lot more Benjamins in my bank account!  As for the healthy and wise part, well, I do try to work on the health part, and since they say that wisdom comes with age, I’m getting there too.  Lol   [Read more…]

Bring on the energy!

No time for being tired when you are battling debt!

“Your labs are way off.”  That was how my day began, with a call from my doctor’s office.  No surprise, given how tired I’ve been feeling lately.  Not only was I getting a 25% increase in my thyroid medication, but I am also going back to using the name brand drug.  In an attempt to save on my prescription costs, earlier this year, I had requested switching to the generic.  Thyroid meds can be tricky, and not everyone responds the same way to generics.  Apparently, I am one of those who does not do well with the generic. Brought to you by Facebook!

How to lower the cost of prescriptions.

When it comes to Facebook, I am a bit of a lurker.  I also try not to spend too much time on the site as it can be a real time sucker. Every now and then, though, a post will catch my eye.  While the information regarding lowering prescription costs wasn’t new to me, it was something that I had forgotten to make a point of doing, and that is to ask!  The post was all about pharmacy gag rules, also referred to as a clawback.   [Read more…]

Open Enrollment

November 10, 2017 By: Lucy14 Comments

Options evaluated and submitted.

Tis that time of year again, the dreaded open enrollment.  With all the craziness of health care over the past few years, I all but hold my breath each time it comes around.  We were fortunate this year not to experience any significant increase in premiums or changes in the plans Hub’s employer offers.  From reading posts from other bloggers, I know we are fortunate.   [Read more…]

Hitting the play button.

November 9, 2017 By: Lucy11 Comments

Off to a bit of a rocky restart, but our journey continues.

Monday was a day of mixed emotions with Hubs having returned to work after being home for a month.  While I hated to see him leave, I also felt eager to resume the journey to financial peace we embarked upon 11 months ago.  This past month has been one of feeling we had hit the pause button, and now with Hubs back to work, I feel we have again hit play.    [Read more…]

Hubs has been cleared to return to work!

It wasn’t easy, but Hubs has received all the needed paperwork to return to work on Monday.  His immediate supervisor had told him all that was needed was a return slip from his doctor.  Human resources, however, had a different idea.  Today Hubs scrambled to have the doctor’s office fill out umpteen amounts of paperwork, fax it to his employer, and get the final okay from HR saying he was good to go.  Fridays are seldom good days for handling such matters, so I’m thankful he managed to get it done.   [Read more…]

A budget friendly living room makeover

Because we don’t have $20,000 or even $2,000!   I am often amused shocked at what some interior designers consider to be average costs of decorating.  According to Laurel over at Laurel Home, you cannot update a living room for $2,000 bucks.  Her post goes on to show an update she did for a client costing […]
