Please don’t leave me hanging

September 18, 2017 By: Lucy15 Comments

In light of several blogs that have recently seemingly disappeared, I am reposting this.  I know that some of these disappearances are the result of the recent security breach of Equifax but others, who knows? I appreciate those who have given their readers a heads up.  Yes, internet safety and privacy is a huge issue and one that must be taken seriously.  But, while we must be careful with what we divulge, I also don’t want to live my life in fear of the what-ifs.  That being said, please don’t leave me hanging!

A heartfelt message to all my fellow personal finance bloggers!

How many of you have ever watched a television series or read a book that leaves you hanging?  I’m not talking about the ones that eventually return with a new season or a sequel; I’m talking about the ones that seem to vanish into thin air, never to be seen or heard from again.   I’m sure most of us have.

Car repairs can be good…

September 16, 2017 By: Lucy11 Comments

Car repairs can be good. They remind us that we didn’t pay 40k for a brand new car with fewer repairs but with huge monthly payments! (And yay for 3 paycheck months!)~Priscilla

Thank you for that comment, Priscilla.  You are absolutely right.  I had not thought of it in this way, and it made paying our latest repair bill much less painful!  While our pickup truck needed some planned and unplanned work (to the tune of almost $1,400-ouch!), this truck has no payment attached to it.  And that is a beautiful thing! Where the week and the money have gone

September 15, 2017 By: Lucy10 Comments

Both the week and the money have gone far too quickly.

Oh my, it has been quite a week!  I wish I could say it has all been good, but life doesn’t always work that way.  Unfortunately, there has been plenty of bad to go along with the good.  Fortunately, the good still outweighs the bad! [Read more…]

Time for a quick update

September 10, 2017 By: Lucycomment

Just a quick update on life here at A Dime at a Time.

Not a lot going on right now, so this is just a quick update of the past few days.

I sold two more items on eBay, netting roughly $30 after fees, etc.  I found a couple more items to list, so I’ll work on that either later tonight or this coming week.  Every little bit helps! [Read more…]

The reality check you’ll want to read

September 7, 2017 By: Lucy15 Comments

It may also be a reality check you should give yourself.

A heads up for those of you who might be sick of reading me write about interest rates and be tempted to click over to the next blog on your reading list.  Please wait.  Yes, this is yet another post about the subject, but stay with me on this. Today I want to share with you how much doing stupid with zeros is costing us.  Much like sharing how much debt we are battling, this is equally difficult to admit.  It is also something that I didn’t realize was quite as bad as it is. If I ever needed another reason to feel the urgency to dump our debt, this sure gave me a doozy! [Read more…]

Financial wins

September 6, 2017 By: Lucy8 Comments

Almost like a burst of energy as we travel along this long road to financial freedom!

Good things have happened here at A Dime at a Time this week.  No matter how big or small, I like to take a moment and be thankful for the financial wins that come our way. [Read more…]

$3406.46 + $50.00 due by September 22, 2017

Playing with the numbers to take full advantage of a balance transfer.

It’s probably no secret by now that I’m more than just a little obsessed with doing whatever we can do to get rid of our debt.  This morning I scrutinized our Visa statement, which is the credit card we will use to do our next balance transfer.  I want it to hit zero before taking advantage of their offer of 5.99% for life.  As mentioned before, we have no intention of keeping it around for any longer than necessary.  Any amount of interest paid is too much, but this offer buys us some time as we pay off other transfers with shorter time limits. August Progress Report

September 1, 2017 By: Lucy16 Comments

Where the numbers stand.

We did better than I anticipated for August.  We are still waiting on those balance transfers to take place.  We opened a new account solely for this purpose, and that is what takes longer.  The card is already in our possession, not that I felt the need for a physical card as we will never use it for purchases.  It was strictly the 21 months at zero percent that we were after. Technology and Budgeting

August 31, 2017 By: Lucy4 Comments

Eventually, I’ll figure it all out!

I bit the bullet and got a new phone. My boss kindly (yeah, right!) gave me a couple of options. The first was for me to pay off the remaining balance on the cell at the cost of $234 and they would pay to break the contract which still has nine months to go.  Um, no thanks on that. I had no intention of paying that much for a phone and benefit she is taking away! The second option was for me to get another phone, which of course would be my own expense. With both options, she said she would release my number. The smarter choice was the second. So, I hightailed it over to Walmart before she changed her mind! [Read more…]

Can a Domestic Engineer be fired?

August 30, 2017 By: Lucy7 Comments

If so, I would fire myself!

With the hours working my seasonal job continuing to slow down to a mere trickle, I decided it was time to reclassify my current job description.  Yes, I still work my very part time job and also work my side business, but now with so much more time on my hands, I tend to see myself more as a domestic engineer than that of someone who has gainful employment outside the home.  And there is certainly nothing wrong with that position.  I just need to remind myself that this job title also comes with responsibilities too. Money Talks: 1-18-2019

After my last discouraging post, I thought it would be good to share some better news.  We are once again back on track with paying off our debt.  Hubs check hit our checking account today, and I took care of a few bills.  I made the mortgage payment for February, and also went ahead and […]
