New Medical Expense

October 3, 2019 By: Lucy14 Comments

After a few horrendous days/nights of dealing with my RLS (restless legs syndrome), I broke down and saw my doctor.  I left the office with an additional prescription, order for labs, and an order for my yearly mammogram.  The office visit and mammogram should be covered 100% by our insurance.  The labs, you never can tell with those.  Thankfully, the prescription cost will only add $7/month to our budget.  Right now, we still have a fair amount in our FSA to cover these expenses. More Hours

September 28, 2019 By: Lucy6 Comments

Today I’ll be working some more hours.  I don’t know exactly how many, but more are always welcome.  I woke up to a text from the mom of the kiddo I watch, asking if I could stay longer today.  She received a promotion at work a couple of weeks ago, and ever since then, I’ve been getting extra time. How should we celebrate freedom from debt?

September 27, 2019 By: Lucy16 Comments

I’ve been giving some thought about how we should celebrate our freedom from debt.  While we aren’t quite there yet, the end is within sight. [Read more…]

Sending another snowball to the Visa

September 25, 2019 By: Lucy6 Comments

The statement for our Visa came via email during the night.  The minimum payment is $78.  The interest charged was $26.78.  I’ve gone ahead and scheduled a payment for tomorrow for $126.74.  That will more than take care of the minimum and also cover the interest.  Balance goes down to $3,500! Paycheck to Paycheck

September 24, 2019 By: Lucy6 Comments

Paycheck to paycheck is about how I’m feeling with this last push to get out from under our consumer debt. I frequently find myself scrutinizing how much more we can pay off every time a paycheck is within sight. With only (cough) $3,900 to go, we are getting ever so close to the long-awaited finish line. Property Tax Refund!

September 19, 2019 By: Lucy10 Comments

Woohoo.  In today’s mail, we received a refund for overpayment of our property taxes in 2018.  I can’t quite figure out how they came to the amount,  but the check was for $283.68.  I’m sure that we saved even more than that for this year by getting the taxes lowered.  Going to the tribunal will help with future years too as there is a cap as to how much they can raise the taxes.  As for the check, it is probably an easy guess as to what we are going to do with the money! This and That

September 18, 2019 By: Lucycomment

Thanks to all of you who chimed in regarding my TV/gift card dilemma.  Although I still feel like it is a splurge since we are not yet out of debt, I feel a bit better about making the purchase.  After talking it over with Hubs and taking JE’s advice to use a piece of cardboard to get a better idea of sizes, I am going with the next size up.  Since I wear glasses, the larger screen will be better since I then won’t need them to see what I’m watching.  I went ahead and redeemed for another $100 in Best Buy gift cards which should cover the cost of the new TV.  After the past two horrible nights I’ve had dealing with my RLS, I’m eager for whatever relief I can get. I hate spending money, even when it is free!

September 15, 2019 By: Lucy16 Comments

Today I took the first step to spending some free money.  The “free money” is via gift cards Hubs earns from his hotel rewards, so a perk of his job. When the gift cards arrive, I’m going to spend them on a new TV.  Why, oh why, do I feel so guilty about doing this, especially since the tv will be free?  Pretty dumb, huh? [Read more…]

The hush-hush of debt in your later years: Republishing an older post!

September 13, 2019 By: Lucy26 Comments

hush-hush

I don’t know that I’ve ever republished an older post, but even 2+ years later, I still feel that sadly, this topic still rings true.  While I wish that it wouldn’t be so, I am thrilled that there are many of us who at least are doing something about our debt! Keep up the fight, my friends.  It will be so worth it! [Read more…]

Property Taxes and Debt Payment

September 13, 2019 By: Lucy4 Comments

We finally received the judgment for our contested property tax increase.  All of this started back with my initial appeal with the local board way back in March of 2018.  From there, I went to the tax tribunal, with the case heard this past June.  Taking the first step with the local board was worth it because when the assessments came out earlier this year, the assessor did lower our taxable value.  However, since I had already filed with the tribunal, I fully intended to see it through.  And I’m glad I did. Time for some good news!

Lately, I feel like most of my posts are all gloom and doom.  But, right now, I do have some good news! As of this coming Monday, Citi will be paid off in full!  I wasn’t sure whether or not we’d be able to pull it off.  But thanks to Hub’s having a bigger check […]
