Update Time: 9-30-2018

September 30, 2018 By: Lucy16 Comments

The end of the month is here, and that means update time!  Part of me wanted to wait until we saw the huge decrease from the sale of our travel trailer, but since I also believe in celebrating all successes, here is how we did in September.

This month we only paid off slightly more than we did in August, but hey, at least we are still going in the right direction!  I hate to keep blaming our slowdown on our driveway repair, but here I’m going to do just that.  Two months later and I feel like we are still playing catchup with taking that hit on our funds.  On the bright side, at least we’ve kept our head above water as we worked on rebuilding our sinking funds.  Anyhow, here is a breakdown of where we started and also where our numbers currently stand.  It is mind-boggling that we’ve paid off almost $20,000 of debt just this year alone!  Sure makes me eager for the day when we can start saving that money rather than paying off our stupidity.  That day will come!

1-1-2017     $55,749.69

1-1-2018     $46,408.39

9-30-2108    $26,610.03

To spare you the math:

Our total debt reduction for September was $959.49

Our total debt reduction for 2018 is $19,798.36

Our overall debt reduction since our start in 2017 is $29,139.66

And the breakdown of what we still owe:

Discover (The Beast)         $6,450         (0%)

Car                                         $5,028.08  (1.99%)

Citi                                         $6,380       (0%)

Visa                                        $8,751.95  (5.99%)

We should be getting the check for our travel trailer sometime this week.  I’ll be eagerly watching for it to clear so The Beast can be paid off in full, and with the car also seeing a significant decrease.  Banks can vary as to when they will release the funds, so this will be a real test of my patience!

How was September for you? I hope you saw some progress too.  The journey isn’t always easy, but remember, seeing it to the end will be so worth it!

Great work! We are focused on saving, so I can take a sabbatical this winter, and either go part time, or quit my job altogether. Yay!

Just think how fast your savings will grow once the debt is paid off! You can have $20k in savings 9 months after your debt is paid.

That is the part I am most excited about. I am so tired of seeing our hard earned money going towards debt.

You guys are an inspiration, Lucy. I am so pleased for you. I want to report that, as of our Oct. mortgage payment, we are 75.1% paid off. I am very excited that we are less than 25% to pay down.

The fun part is when the savings starts to grow. You will get there. You are doing great.

Motivational Monday 1/6/2020

Because sometimes we could all use a little motivation. It’s finally here, my first Motivational Monday! I decided to start doing this as a way to encourage myself (and hopefully some of you as well) to earn and save more money.  My goal is to make and save at least an extra $2,020 in 2020. […]
