The car repair/maintenance work we had done on Friday came under budget by $69. The total bill came to $1431. There were a few extra items (bolts, etc.) but I was able to offset these charges by reducing the initial estimate by using a $25 coupon and also opting not to have the cabin air filter replaced. We don’t smoke, and as for dust and pollen, we only drive this car in the Winter, so I didn’t feel this was an issue. Before we switch over to our Summer vehicle, we will get an oil change done. We will need tires before next season, but that will wait until later in the year.
Since I had a loaner car and was in town anyway, I did some sourcing for my Amazon business. I came home with enough for a good size shipment and have it all boxed and ready to be shipped tomorrow.
I earned $265 this past week taking care of the preemie. I can’t really call this extra though as things have been very slow at my office job. I’m still thankful as it does help keep us moving in the right direction.
I also earned $15 with M-Turks. Not a lot, but I keep telling myself that every little bit helps. While I wouldn’t give up my day job to do it (even if I had a regular one-Lol), it isn’t a bad thing to do when you have a little extra time. The trouble is that I’m not always in the mood to do it. Sigh.
This week I’ve been asked to work two days in the office and also take care of the preemie an extra day. As I’ve said before, I never turn down any hours that come my way. Hubs often jokes about me having multiple streams of income. While I no longer earn near what I did working full time as a nurse, I do enjoy the flexibility I have with all of my part-time gigs.

I guess I can’t complain too much about the $225 we just spent on my car yesterday, huh? I have learned (through YEARS of stupid) that it does pay to keep your car maintenance up-to-date or you have MUCH bigger problems down the line.
Quiet Sunday here – dh & I walked to the library top pick up some books I requested that had come in and I worked on projects most of the day – cross-stitch today. Pork loin is in the crock pot for dinner and even thought I REALLY, REALLY….did I mention REALLY wanted to go out for lunch, we did NOT…..dh made grilled ham & cheese sandwiches. Oh, 4 loads of laundry too but I guess I blocked that out, lol
I’d gladly trade car repair bills. Lol You are absolutely right about keeping up with the maintenance. Better to just take care of it and avoid worse problems later. Even with the high bill, it was still cheaper than replacing the car.
Good for you for not going out to eat! Just think about that money going towards getting out of debt! Thanks for reminding me that I still have a load of laundry to fold. Yeah, I like to block that out too!
Taking my car in is scary to me. I do it, but I’m always afraid they’re going to find something else that needs fixing, going over my budget. I’m so glad your repair came in UNDER budget!
Coming under budget was probably a first for me. With a repair cost of this much, I was very thankful!
I either have to have a new car or spend too much for ac. It is a must with my allergies. I took it to two places last year and spent a total of $500 and still don’t have ac all the time. The air is frigid when it is frigid. The other times it is either warm air or no air. I think it is a short. It will not be a new car, just new-to-me. There are other things wrong with this 2000 Malibu, so I would not be selling it over just the ac.

When a car gets to that age, they can start to nickel and dime you to death. New to you is the way to go. Let someone else take the new car hit!
I did pretty good with M-Turk last week, but like you said, sometimes it’s just really hard to get in the mood to do it. Do you set aside a monthly amount for future car repairs? I need to start doing this, as our car is getting up there in age now.

I haven’t, which is probably not a good thing! Right now we have a decent snowball ($700ish) plus with what we have in our emergency fund, I figure we should be able to come up with $ to cover repair costs. We also have a miscellaneous fund ($100/month) which I roll over that can help cover future expenses. I am planning on setting a bit extra aside to cover the tires we will need in the Fall.
I guess you have spend almost nothing on your car maintenance. I have just replaced my TMS headlight controlling module (Part No. BMW 63117274400 ) it cost a lot more than what you spent on your car.
Well should say you are really good at making your budget and sticking on it. I have just spent $170 on my Ford Truck Seat Covers.
